What is a spring balance?

A spring balance is a type of mechanical force gauge or weighing scale. Spring balances and spring scales consist of a hook attached to the end of a spring. An item is attached to the spring and suspended, and the weight can be read on the side of the spring balance.

What are the benefits of spring balances?
