Hanging Scales

Hanging scales and crane scales are heavy duty industrial scales commonly used either by hand or suspended from a fixed position. Types of hanging scale include digital crane scales that offer large weighing capacities up to 10 tonnes for weighing cargo and shipping containers, and mechanical hand held scales that are typically lower in capacity and price for weighing small objects such as tote bags and feed sacks.

Hanging scales are highly versatile scales and can be used for a range of weighing applications including the weighing mail bags in packing and distribution warehouses, for accurately weighing fish caught recreationally, as well as weighing feed sacks or fertiliser bags for agriculture and animal care.

Hanging Scales Help

Q: What is the difference between a hanging scale and a crane scale?

A: Whilst a hanging scale and crane scale are similar in principle, hanging scales typically offer lower weight capacities and are more suited for the suspended weighing of produce, meat and bags of feed.

Crane scales are tough, heavy-duty scales that feature much higher weight capacities than the standard hanging scale. These scales come with remote control in order to lift and weigh large, oversized objects such as containers, crates and machinery safely.

Q: When would I use a hanging scale?

A: Hanging scales are highly versatile scales that can be used within a wide variety of industries and weighing applications, including agriculture, food and recreational sport:

In agriculture, hand-held scales are used to weigh animal feed bags and fertilisers to ensure that each bag has the optimum amount for supporting plant and animal growth, as well as to reduce product waste.

In the food industry, hanging scales are relied upon for suspended weighing of fruit and vegetables on markets and in grocery stores.

Certain types of hanging scale can also be used in recreational fishing. it is possible to weigh a caught fish by attaching the scale hook under the fish's gill plate, this will allow the fish to be weighed safely and securely.
