Moisture Analysers & Meters
Although far more specific in their uses, moisture analysers and meters feature across many diverse industries and are an integral part to manufacturing, production and testing procedures. One important use of a moisture analyser is in food production where the moisture content of a product can seriously impact things like taste, texture and shelf life. Aside from food related businesses, industries such as cosmetics or agriculture can also benefit from using these instruments in their day to day work.
Moisture Analysers predominantly work by using a method called Loss on Drying (LOD). This is a process that involves taking an item’s initial weight, drying the item out through heating, then finally taking the weight reading at the end of the drying process. The latter figure is simply subtracted from the former and you have your moisture reading.
There are also pin-type moisture meters available that can be useful for testing the moisture levels of building materials such as wood or plasterboard. For these small handheld devices to work, you must pierce the subject with the two prongs completely. An electrical current is then passed between the two and the electrical resistance is converted into a moisture content value.
