Catering Scales

Catering scales are used within the food service industry for the preparation of ingredients. They are also used for portion control, such as fillings for sandwiches, diet control or for pre packed goods, filling of canned goods or the mixing of seasonings or ingredients.

Consistency is essential for all professional catering businesses, and the scales provided in this section come complete with a wide variety of precision weighing applications including parts counting, percentage weighing and checkweighing to ensure each product maintains a standardised pre-set weight. For commercial caterers in the UK, a UK trade approved food scale will be necessary for selling products by weight.

Catering scales are widely used in large special events such as birthday celebrations and weddings for accurately weighing ingredients and monitoring portion sizes. They are also relied upon by bakers and pizzerias for weighing dough mixes and for portion weighing of the dough.

Inscale provide a wide selection of digital catering scales for food service, please contact us if you need further assistance.

What are food scales used for?

The main areas are portion weighing, ingredient weighing and diets. For diets it is essential, if you want to maintain or lose weight, to know exactly how many calories you are eating. By using a digital food scale you can get an insight and understand the calories consumed.

Restaurants, pizza shops, sandwich shops, cafeterias, bakeries and delis can all use digital food scales to help with food preparation ensuring consistent portion size when preparing meals, generally these are non-approved weighing scales. Ingredient weighing is basically how it sounds, using a food weighing scale to accurately weigh ingredients, these are used in professional kitchens, bakeries to name a few, where accuracy is required over the cheap kitchen scales available. This can also refer to other non-food industries, for example, soap making uses set ingredients to make the final product.

What are portion scales?

Portion scales are used within the food sector to accurately weigh portion sizes. Let's take an example: a sandwich bar making up rolls for their customers will want to ensure that each one is consistent, you will not want two customers consuming the same roll at the same time in the shop with one being bigger. That is a sure way to encourage complaints and negative feedback, plus as you charge the same price one was making less profit as you gave product away.

A portion weighing scale ensures that meal provided is consistent with the next and so on, saving money by not over-sizing. Each item can be weighed on the scale and the 'Tare' used on each ingredient.

Generally food scales are made to have no areas where food can accumulate and are generally easy to clean, this is consistent from small to large industrial food scales or catering scales.
